Appendix · Adaptive Brand Management: Foundations

Version Notes

What Version 3.0 fixed, and the commitment to hold it as the reference edition through January 2027.

Version 3.0 fixes the formal classification as an extension of brand management. It retains the definition, confirms trust, visibility, and relevance as the three operating conditions, defines operating environment in its ordinary management sense, treats machine-mediated discovery as a current example within visibility, removes the living-system metaphor, and adds practical illustrations of stable core and adaptive execution.

Version 3.0 is intended to remain the reference version through January 2027 unless material evidence requires an earlier revision. Later versions may add measurement models, test sector- specific applications, introduce case studies, and remove claims that do not hold. Revision is expected. The document should demonstrate the discipline it describes.

Figures

Figure 1, the foundational operating cycle, was added to Section 7 on 15 August 2026. Until that date the section described the cycle in prose and carried no illustration. The figure states the same sequence and adds nothing the text does not already argue.

Three directions were drawn and four versions kept. One direction was retired because, in the projection it required, the drawing asserted the opposite of the section it illustrated. The full record, including the versions that were not used, is published at Drawing the operating cycle. It is kept public for the same reason these version notes are: a document that shows how its argument changed should also show how its illustrations were arrived at.
